Don Koelliker was drafted into the Navy in 1944 and served until 1946 on the USS Clinton APA 144. This was an amphibious vessel that transported vehicles, boats, and troops around the Pacific. Koelliker was near the USS Missouri when Japan surrendered. He was born May 8, 1924 in Doniphan County. He grew up on a farm in Brown County and he was a farmer as an adult. He was interviewed by Suzette McCord-Rogers on Apr 16, 2007. The 2005 Kansas Legislature passed a bill funding the WWII Veterans Oral History grant program. This transcript is from one of the community institutions receiving grants. The transcript of the interview is presented here; the original video copy of the interview is available through the Doniphan County Historical Society (Troy) and through the Kansas State Historical Society.
