Emmett Fryman was inducted into the United States Army April 25, 1945, and served until May 16, 1946, in the APO 343, 8th U. S. Army. He trained a number of places and was then stationed in Yokohama, Japan, arriving there in September 1945. He was with the army of occupation. He worked in the Army Post Office (APO) while he was in the Army. He was born in Horton, Kansas, on April 23, 1914. He graduated from a Catholic high school. He started working for the United State Post Office in Horton in 1933. At the time he was drafted, he was married and had two children. He returned to the Horton Post Office when he got out of the military and worked there the rest of his career. He was interviewed by Suzette McCord-Rogers on Apr 27, 2007. The 2005 Kansas Legislature passed a bill funding the WWII Veterans Oral History grant program. This transcript is from one of the community institutions receiving grants.
