This is a photo of a sketch of Mrs. T. Sutherland's residence at the corner of Berkley & Massachusetts Streets, Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas. Mrs. Sutherland was in this house with her daughter and son at the time of Quantrill's raid. This house was built entirely of black walnut timber cut in the Kaw River bottom near Lawrence.
