A photograph showing Kansas Governor Mike Hayden and then Secretary of Agriculture Sam Brownback, inspecting corn during a drought tour in northeast Kansas. Born in Atwood, Kansas, Hayden entered politics after a decorated career in the military in 1962. Hayden held office as governor of Kansas from 1987 to 1991. Afterwards, he moved to Washington D. C. returning to Kansas in 2002, as the Secretary of Wildlife and Parks.
