A portrait of Sarah L. Ridenour, wife of Peter Ridenour. In 1858, Peter and Harlow Baker founded Ridenour-Baker Grocery Company in Lawrence, Kansas. On August 21,1863, Quantrill's raiders destroyed the company's entire stock of goods valued at $40,000, and Mr. Baker was seriously wounded. The company moved from its Lawrence downtown location to Kansas City, Missouri in 1878 and began operating as the Kansas City Terminal Warehouse Company.
