This black and white photograph shows the preliminary sketches for the statehouse mural entitled "Kansas Pastoral" by Regionalist artist John Steuart Curry, (1897-1946). Located on the west wall of the archway on the second-floor of the capitol in Topeka, Kansas, the mural illustrates a family and their farm as the night and evening sky merge together on the Kansas prairie.
