This is a portrait of Jennie Adelle Cornish Howe taken at age 16. In 1879, her family moved from Lancaster County, Nebraska, to a farm near Montrose, Jewell County, Kansas. Two years later, the family moved to Jewell City, where she finished school. From 1891-1892, Howe attended Miss Cannon's Shorthand School in Topeka, Kansas. She later returned to Jewell County where she met and married George Christina Howe on September 8, 1897. They lived on a farm near Esbon, Kansas. The Howes' had one daughter, Helen.
