The letter was sent by the Office of Recruiting Commission, Department of Kansas, to Mr. Nathan P. Gregg notifying him that he had been appointed as a Second Lieutenant of Company E, 11th Regiment, Kansas Volunteers. In addition, the letter directs Gregg to report with his company to Brigadier General James G. Blunt in order to be mustered into the U.S. Army.
