Fred Farnsworth worked for the U. S. Post Office and this image shows him in uniform. In 1894, he married Martha Van Orsdol Shaw, who had been recently widowed. Martha's first husband John also worked for the post office. After his death, Martha worked as a live-in care giver to Fred's mother shortly before her death. Information about Martha and Fred is contained in Martha's diaries, some of which are available on Kansas Memory. The Farnsworths lived in Topeka, Kansas.
