A portrait of Captain Joseph Parks, Shawnee Indian Chief, who moved from Ohio with other Shawnee Indians to Kansas Territory in 1833. He served as an interpreter and agent for his tribe and was involved in negotiating the sale of the Shawnee reservation back to the federal government in 1854.
