This is a formal portrait of Congressman Dennis Moore. He was first elected to political office in 1977 as Johnson County, Kansas, District Attorney. He held this position until 1989 when he became a member of the board of trustees for Johnson County Community College. In 1998, he challenged incumbent Republican Vince Snowbarger for Kansas's third Congressional district and was elected as the first Democrat in thirty seven years from a traditionally conservative district. As a member of Congress, Moore served on the House Budget Committee and the House Banking Committee. He was a policy co-chair for the Blue Dog Coalition, a coalition created in 1994 to give conservative Democrats a unified voice in the House of Representatives. In addition Moore was also a member of the New Democrat Coalition that allows Democrats in Congress to create and pass legislation that favors a moderate and pro-business view. He left office January 3, 2011. He was born in Anthony, Kansas.
