January 4 `12
Mrs. W. A. Johnston,
Topeka, Kansas.
Dear friend: - I received the list of committees from the corresponding secretary for the state federation of Women's Clubs this week and I notice my name on the Legislative Committee.
I am afraid Mrs. Atkinson has erred sadly in selecting so insignificant a person as I for so important a committee, where there is so much responsibility and so much needed to be done, and I am wholly ignorant of what is required of such a committee. However, Papa and I are planning to come to Topeka the latter part of January to attend the Bar Association, which meets on the 27 and 28 of this month, I believe, also, to have a look at the legislature while in session, so perhaps that would be the most opportune time for me to see you about the matter and then whatever you see fit for me to do, I will endeavor most earnestly to carry out, for now that we women have so nearly attained our suffrage we surely want to show the state, also the other states, that we can make good.
If you have any communications to make or any suggestions to be carried out before I see you please let me know, or if it will not be convenient for you to do anything with regards the work, at the time I mentioned, if you would please let me know I would appreciate it very much.
Nellie Cline
