A poster advertising the forty-third annual picnic being held at Stahl's Grove, in Osage County, Kansas. The picnic was organized in 1879 for the purpose of creating public sentiment in favor of an amendment to the constitution calling for prohibition, which happened in 1881 when the legislature passed the laws necessary for prohibition in Kansas. The picnic featured Tom McNeal and Jim Troutman as the principal speakers and the Burlingame Boys' Band for entertainment.
