Mabel Holmes, a resident of Topeka during the Dust Bowl years, kept this diary of her daily activities. During the week of March 15-22, 1935, Holmes mentions two dust storms and complains about the layers of dust deposited in and around her house. The storm of March 20th was so intense that, even during the day, she needed a light to see her way around the house. The diary, which covers the period from 1935 to 1939, includes entries from several years on a single page and describes church activities, health problems, housework, and world events.
