Carol L. Johnson (1916-2003) painted this interior scene in the mid-1950s from a snapshot of his uncle's hardware store in Alta Vista. Wolgast hardware store was opened in the 1920s and closed during the 1970s. Johnson was originally from Alta Vista, studied fine arts at the University of Kansas, worked as an artist/illustrator in New York and used this painting in his portfolio.
