"Last Moments of John Brown" by Thomas Hovenden. A photograph of a painting that was painted nearly twenty years after Brown's death at the request of art collector Robbins Batrell. The scenes from the painting were based on a newspaper account of John Brown's trial which appeared in the "New York Tribune" on December 5, 1859.
