This flyer provides information about the Quarter-Century Celebration that was being organized to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the "settlement of Kansas." The celebration was to be held at Bismarck Grove near Lawrence on September 15-16, 1879. The Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Railroad and the Kansas Pacific Railway were offering reduced prices for people to travel to attend. Elected officials, persons involved in the early settlement of Kansas, and other prominent people would give addresses or be present. Cyrus K. Holliday was to deliver the opening address. Charles Robinson served as president of the committee of arrangements and many early settlers are listed as secretaries or vice presidents.
