Rev. Stephen Estey supported woman's suffrage, and he wrote these remarks at the time when Kansans were considering a constitutional amendment to give full voting rights to Kansas women. His pamphlet discusses the relation of woman's suffrage to democratic government. He also presents his views on the various objections to women voting and concludes with his arguments in favor of woman's suffrage. The pamphlet was published by the Kansas State Temperance Union. Estey was pastor at the First Presbyterian Church of Topeka from 1904 to 1929.
