Russell, Kansas, has a festival every ten years commemorating the settlement period. It is called Prairiesta. This photograph shows the Prairiesta parade being led by the Russell High School Band, with drum majorettes and baton twirlers. Also visible are the Prairiesta Queen on a large, automobile-drawn float, immediately after the band, spectators, automobiles, a foot long hot dog stand, a large grain elevator, a railroad crossing, streetlights, and buildings and businesses on the city street.
