A photograph of Mike Hayden, while working as Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Fish and Wildlife, shaking hands with Barbara Bush, wife of President George Bush, at an event where she was lighting the National Christmas tree in Washington, D. C. Born in Atwood, Kansas, Hayden entered politics after a decorated career in the military in 1962. Hayden held office as governor of Kansas from 1987 to 1991. Afterwards, he moved to Washington D. C. returning to Kansas in 2002, as the Secretary of Wildlife and Parks.
