This photograph shows members of the Jayhawker Tractor Girls with four covered wagons pulled by a tractor. One of the wagons reads, "Woman's National Agricultural Legion," and another, "Jayhawker Tractor Girls." The Woman's National Agricultural Legion, originally the Jayhawker Tractor Girls, was organized at the start of World War I in 1918. The group encouraged women to join the farm labor force while men were away fighting in Europe.

This is a record of all agricultural associations incorporated in Kansas betewen January 9, 1866 and January 19, 1874. Many are county agricultural associations, but some serve more specific populations, such as the First Swedish Agricultural Company of MacPherson County and the Danish Agricultural Society of Jackson County. The official state seal is affixed to the final page of this record to show that it has been certified by the Kansas Secretary of State, W.H. Smallwood.

Star Valley Grange group, Allen County, Kansas

This photograph shows the Star Valley Grange group, Patrons of Husbandry, lodge number 1661. Both men and women are pictured in somewhat elaborate uniforms. The National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry, also simply styled the Grange, is a fraternal organization for American farmers that encourages farm families to band together for their common economic and political well-being. It was founded in 1867 and reached its peak in the 1890s through the 1950s. In addition to serving as a center for many farming communities, the Grange was an effective advocacy group for farmers and their agendas, including fighting railroad monopolies and advocating rural mail deliveries.
