Corporal/Specialist Dean Chase Banker was drafted into the Army (Infantry) in 1944 and served until 1945 in the G Company, 274 Regiment, Combat Infantry 70th Division. Interviewed by Judy Walker on Jun 19, 2006, Banker talked about military experiences in the Second World War. Banker was born in Hays, Kansas but was raised in Russell, Kansas, where his father, Lewis Waldo Banker, owned the L. W. Banker Mercantile Store. Dean ran the store for a number of years after his father died. Dean was a German prisoner of war. The 2005 Kansas Legislature passed a bill funding the WWII Veterans Oral History grant program.
