Subjects included are applications for jobs, endorsements, and remonstrances, as well as appointments to State positions; bonds; charitable and correctional institutions; cities and towns; claims; counties and county organization; crime and criminals, extraditions, and rewards; fairs; immigration; Indians; invitations; Indian, school, railroad, & other land; legislation; federal and State military affairs; railroads; relief; aerial navigation, forestry, livestock, pharmaceuticals, mines, silk, the State soldiers (orphans) home, and the United States government.

These folders contain correspondence with Governor Huxman and are subdivided into appointment files, folders 1 - 15, and state agency files, folders 16 - 37. The state agency files contain routine correspondence to and from nearly all of the bureaus of the state government.

These reports, published by the Kansas Board of Pharmacy, may include the secretary's annual report to the governor, board proceedings, cases prosecuted, laws, rules and regulations, legal decisions, and lists of registered pharmacists, pharmacies, and assistants. Names are frequently listed alphabetically and by county. Some reports contain short sketches of deceased members. A fifth annual report is not known to exist. The fourth and sixth reports were both published in 1891. Gaps in publication or holdings exist in 1900; 1917-1934; 1936; 1939; 1941-1947; 1949-1954; 1956-1957; 1959-1966; 1968-1971; and post 1972. Funds to underwrite the digitization of these reports, Board of Pharmacy Examination questions (Item # 214023), and the Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations (Item #214924) were provided by the Jere Matchett Memorial Fund. This donation also funded the scanning of photographs of drug stores across Kansas to include them in Kansas Memory.

These images show pages of the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy's examination questions for obtaining a license as a pharmacist. The three sections of the examinations are labeled Materia Medica, Pharmacy, and Chemistry. The examination given in 1889 contains several questions about medicinal plants and their habitats. The examination given in Fort Scott in 1902 shows questions on converting measurements using both the apothecary system and the metric system, suggesting an increasing level of modern scientific methods in the field of pharmacy. Funds to underwrite the digitization of these examination questions, Board of Pharmacy Reports (Item #218637), and the Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations (Item #214924) were provided by the Jere Matchett Memorial Fund. This donation also funded the scanning of photographs of drug stores across Kansas to include them in Kansas Memory.

These images show pages of the rules and regulations recorded in the minutes of the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy. The regulations cover such topics as the sale of habit-forming drugs, package labeling of poisons, qualifications for taking the pharmacy licensing examination, fees for the examination, passing grades on the examination, license certificates, and other pharmacy regulations. This special meeting was held in Wichita. Funds to underwrite the digitization of these rules and regulations, Board of Pharmacy reports (Item # 218637), and Board of Pharmacy Examination questions (Item # 214023), were provided by the Jere Matchett Memorial Fund. These letters, spanning 1885 to 1888, are from members of the Kansas State Pharmaceutical Association and other individuals regarding the State Board of Pharmacy to Kansas Governor John Martin. The letters are either a recommendation or application for a position on the board. The State Board of Pharmacy was created in 1885. It consisted of five practicing pharmacists doing business in the state. The Governor appointed the board from a list of names submitted by the Kansas State Pharmaceutical Association.

The following documents pertain to matters of the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy such as appointments and reports. There are a few letters from individuals notifying Kansas Governor Humphrey they have received the announcement of their appointment as members on the Board of Pharmacy. A letter from John T. Moore on May 27th, 1891, certifies to the Governor the ten names listed on the document are registered pharmacists and residents of Kansas. Following this document is a report that displays the names of members of the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy, officers of the Board, and discusses meetings of the Board that took place during the year.

These letters, spanning 1886 to 1888, are from the State Board of Pharmacy and individual board members regarding the board's general affairs to Kansas Governor John Martin. The board members wrote to discuss reports, the actions passed, meeting minutes, and the appointment of new members. Also, there is an official document verifying the pharmaceutical certification of the board members.

A letter from Charles F. Johnson of the 19th Senate District informs Kansas Governor Humphrey he should appoint H. W. Spangler of Perry, Kansas as a member on the Board of Pharmacy. A letter from Robert J. Brown of Brown Medicine desires the Governor to appoint two people, one in the chemistry field and the other in the pharmacy field to be members of the Board. There are letters from members of the Board of Pharmacy requesting the reappointment of Robert S. Drake as a member. Further correspondence is from individuals recommending certain people for the appointment as a member of the Board of Pharmacy.
