Stella Miller of Topeka wore this orange georgette dress to her high school graduation in 1929. It is typical of 1920's fashion, which reflected the decade's relaxed morals. Those women who could afford it opted for a sophisticated style reflecting wealth and romance. Sparkles and spangles called attention to the new short skirts that revealed shapely calves and ankles.

Mark Elliott athletics scrapbook

This scrapbook focuses on the baseball career of Mark Elliott and his time in high school in Silver Lake, Kansas. It contains photographs, programs, and baseball stats. An interesting item in this scrapbook is a letter from the Los Angeles Dodges about Mark receiving a ring for being a part of the organization during the season they won the National League Championship Series in 1977. Mark Elliott, originally from Silver Lake, Kansas, was the state-record holder for career home runs with 36 until it was broken in 2004 by another Silver Lake athlete, Josh Workman. He also went 8-0 as a pitcher in 1977 for the Silver Lake Eagles. Mark played football at Washburn University and was drafted in 1977 by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He spent three seasons in the minors, hitting .262 with 12 home runs. When he graduated from Silver Lake, Elliott also held the career record for passing yards with 5,525. He also was a well renowned golfer in Topeka, winning four straight City Stroke Play titles from 2007-10 and two straight City Match Play titles from 2007-08 in addition to numerous KGA titles. The son of former Washburn football and baseball coach Larry Elliott, Mark coached the Kansas State golf team from 1991-97.

Almeda was involved in the Girl Reserve at Camp Wood near Elmdale, Kansas, and activities at Riley Rural High School in the 1930s. Almeda was born on April 26, 1920 to Roger and Hermina Harrison.

Volume eleven of Samuel James Reader's diary. Inside the front cover is a photograph of Reader at the age of fifty. In addition to English, Reader writes the diary in shorthand. Newspaper clippings, commencement programs, election tickets and illustrations are found in the diary. During the period charted by this volume, Reader's public duties expanded to clerk of the new School District No. 93, his daughter enrolled in the Topeka Business and Normal College, and Reader bought a typewriter.
