This expense sheet, which was in account with E. B. Whitman, an agent of the committee, lists expenses and supplies sent to aid the free state inhabitants of Kansas. The items sent include (among others) wheat, oats, corn, beans, potatoes, garden seeds, bedding, and clothing.

Napolean B. Blanton prepared this itemized list. Blanton of Douglas County operated a toll bridge over the Wakarusa River in Douglas County south of Lawrence, Kansas Territory. The total bill is for $191.26, including provisions and tolls: "I have thrown my bridge open free for the freestate party from the 15th of May to the 20th of September. . ."

Most of the items on this itemized bill, presented to the Kansas State Central Committee by Gaius Jenkins of Lawrence (a free-state man who was subsequently shot and killed by Jim Lane), are related to armaments (powder, lead, etc.) or other necessities for supplying a militia force in the Kansas Territory.

This handwritten bill charged Hiram Hill for plastering work (presumably in his new home in Lawrence, Kansas Territory) done by B. Johnson. Johnson initialed the document, and noted his receipt of Hill's payment in full.

This is an itemized inventory of goods maintained by the Kansas Central Committee for distribution to Free State citizens in need of relief. The inventoried goods consist primarily of clothing and fabric.

This is a copy of an invoice most likely created during the late fall or winter 1856-1857. Starting with five Colt Revolvers, the invoice identifies over thirty separate listings for various firearms, foodstuffs, harness, etc., plus a good number of horses and mules, received from Colonel Shalor W. Eldridge. Among the different items listed are cartridges, blankets, canvas tents, shovels, bayonets, tin cups, and "25 old Sabors."

The Kansas Central Committee paid $5.50 to brothers Edmund G. Ross and William W. Ross, editors of the "Kansas Tribune," in Topeka, Kansas Territory, for printing "250 1/8 Posters" for the July convention."

This is a detailed list of the articles of clothing sent to Kansas by the First Congregational Church in Flushing, New York. It includes dresses, frocks, coats, skirts, pants, drawers, shirts, socks, vests, boots and gloves as well as other items. The pastor of the church, S. Bourne, emphasized the quality and durability of the clothing.

This list of "notes received for seeds" distributed by R. H. Waterman "under the direction of E. B. Whitman" is signed "John Brown Agt Nat. Kan. Com.," September 29, 1858. The notes were, according to Brown, given to him "in past payment or security on account."

This quarterly statement was written by Robert Simerwell, a missionary colporteur with the American Baptist Publication Society. It contains the dollar amounts for the number of books on hand, his salary for one month, and the amount from book sales, among other items.

This document, prepared by the Simpson brothers (possibly Samuel Newell, H.M., and/or W.A.) for Hiram Hill, shows the amount of rent collected for each of Hill's tenants from May 1858 to March 1859. Hill owned several properties in Lawrence, Kansas Territory, which he rented to people and businesses.


William Hutchinson to John Brown?

William Hutchinson to John Brown?

On the bottom of an incomplete listing of weapons distributed (e.g., Navy Revolvers), William Hutchinson wrote regarding his "earnest effort for you [John Brown?] in this place.
