Carlson belonged to the St. John Lodge at Concordia(Ancient Order of Free and Accepted Masons)and became a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Salina on Nov. 18, 1937. He was honored with Knight Commander Court of Honour 32nd Degree on Oct. 21, 1947 and raised to 33rd Degree Oct. 19, 1953.
