American Legion baseball team from Silver Lake, Kansas

The American Legion Post 160 baseball team from Silver Lake, Kansas is shown in this photograph from 2005. The team won the American Legion Class AA state championship by defeating Marysville, 14-2, in the title game played in Pratt. Pictured in the front are (l to r): Luke Perry; Chris Linnemann; Chris Graves; Tyler Wegele; Adam Simone; and, Tanner Fritz. In the back are (l to r): Kirk Simone (head coach); Brett Hamilton (assistant coach); Josh Corpening; Derek Graves; Josh Maike; Curtis Hamilton; Eric Esparza; and Scott Graves (assistant coach). Digital reproduction of the photo was accomplished through a joint project sponsored by the Kansas Historical Society and the Shawnee County Baseball Hall of Fame.

Cowboy hat
Date: 2005
A cowboy hat worn by Kansas native Danni Boatwright while competing on "Survivor: Guatemala." This Kansas City Chiefs hat is made of straw and is spray-painted pink. In 2005, Boatwright won the reality television show competition and was awarded one million dollars. Originally from Tonganoxie, Kansas, Boatwright attended the University of Kansas, and later worked as a fashion model and sports broadcaster. In 1996 she won the Miss Kansas beauty pageant.

Dennis Tietjens' barn near Robinson, Kansas
Date: September 30, 2005
These three photographs show Dennis Tietjens' barn located on 205th Road near Robinson, Kansas. It was originally built by John Dickenson in 1861. It is a three bay 30' x 46' structure built with hand hewn timber from trees harvested in the area. The river rock used to build the barn was gathered from Atchison and hauled to the Dickenson property. The lower level was used for horses and mules, the second level for grain and hay, and the third for ears of corn. The Dickenson farmstead remained in the family until 1979. The barn was featured on the 2010 National Barn Alliance Brochure.
