This is a view of two staff members hanging a wreath above the mantle of the Sharp House, a residence for those patients of the Menninger Clinic who were learning to live on their own. The photograph shows the fireplace in the library of the Evelyn Sharp House. Evelyn Sharp, a trustee, donated the funds needed to purchase the house for use in After-Care Services. The Menninger Clinic has since moved to Houston, Texas, but the Sharp House is still a group home and is now owned by Valeo Behavioral Healthcare.

Washburn Alumni Association Distinguished Service Medal awarded to Mamie Williams, an African American woman who taught in Topeka, Kansas, schools from 1918 to 1960. Born in South Carolina, Williams moved with her family to Topeka in 1899. She studied mathematics at Washburn College, where she was the only African-American in her class. Williams began teaching in the Topeka area in 1918 and remained there for 42 years. In 1973, she was awarded the Washburn University Distinguished Service Award. The Washburn Alumni Association awarded this medal to Williams in recognition of her contributions to education. The Medallic Art Company of New York manufactured the medal. Founded in 1903, the company was well known for minting prestigious awards such as the Pulitzer Prize, the Peabody Award, and the Newberry Medal.

Shown are views of the excavation at the Baker Store and an artist's rendition of a map of the area. Shown are progress shots of the excavations, cellar walls visible after excavation, a group shot of the students, and a map of the house and store that was drawn based on an 1910 interview of a local man. The excavation at the Baker House and Store, in Morris County, was undertaken by Emporia State Teacher's College (now Emporia State University) in 1972 and 1973. The house and store were burned in 1862 by "Bloody Bill" Anderson and his cohorts. The collection, along with these photographs was donated to the Kansas Historical Society in 1993.
