In this letter to Kansas State Historical Society Secretary Geroge W. Martin, A.M. Coville relates his knowledge of the Kaw Indian White Plume. Coville explains that when he first met White Plume in 1875 he "claimed to be over 90 years old, and he certainly looked to be 100. His hair was white his face wrinkled and features shrunken." Coville also mentions that White Plume had survived an attack with the "Plains Indians" in which he had been scalped, surviving only by being rescued by his tribesmen.

A map drawn by Albert Krhut, from Voda, Kansas, showing creeks, the railroad and the school house in Township 14 South, Range 24 West, Trego county. On a separate sheet, Albert includes a legend for the map. This is one of several maps drawn by school children for a contest organized by Judge J. C. Ruppenthal of Russell, Kansas. The maps were to meet a "requirement of presenting historical data, together with excellence and accuracy of drawing." This submission won the 5th place prize of twenty-five cents in the map contest of 1909.

This photograph shows the "Rendezvous Club" room inside the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company's Fred Harvey El Tovar Hotel. The facility is located at the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona and designed by architect Charles Whittlesey. In 1974, the El Tovar was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

These black and white photographs show the wreckage between two Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway locomotives east of north Topeka, Kansas. The accident occurred when oil train #185 collided into the construction train that was pulling six flat cars near the Kaw Valley school house about 2 miles north of the three bridge over Soldier Creek. At the time of the collision, there were approximately 60 to 70 section workers aboard the construction train. Many of the workers either escaped to safety or were severely injured, but seventeen of them were pronounced dead at the scene.

Autograph remailing card. Card designed to be circulated to multiple people to collect autographs. The obverse has the image of an open book with blank pages for the signatures. The reverse has six blanks for names and addresses as well as six squares for postage stamps. The card has been circulated to Kansas City, Missouri, Newton, Kansas, and Smith Center, Kansas. Five green one-cent stamps on reverse, all cancelled. Additional postmark on obverse from Smith Center, April 4, 1909. Card copyrighted by "G&B" 1908.

The Automobile Club of Wichita published this year book for the years 1909-1910. Its content reflects that automobile travel was a recent introduction to the lives of Kansans. It includes advertisements from automobile dealers, garages, and other businesses in Wichita, Hutchinson, Newton, Winfield, El Dorado, Dodge City, Yates Center, Iola, Independence, Topeka, Emporia, Garden City, and Lawrence. It also lists the officers and board of directors of the club, its constitution and bylaws, the Kansas law regulation the use of automobiles, two Wichita ordinances (#2875 and 3002) related to the use of cars, and rules of the road. The bulk of the yearbook provides driving routes to and from various cities and towns in Kansas, as well as Colorado and Oklahoma. An index to the routes and maps is on pages 22-23. These driving routes include specific directions and include references to many small towns and local landmarks, etc. The yearbook also lists Wichita residents that own automobiles, their license numbers and the type of automobile they own. The booklet concludes with a list of members of the automobile club.
