This Union Pacific Railway poster promotes travel east from Sidney, Nebraska, on the Union Pacific Railway. It claims the Sidney and Black Hills Stage line passes over the best roads and has the best Concord Coaches. The stage line connects with the palace cars of the Union Pacific Railway to travel to all points east or west, crossing rivers on great iron bridges. At Omaha, Nebraska, or St. Joseph, Missouri, connections could be made to all points east, north, or south.

Bird's eye view of the city of Atchison, Kansas

This colored lithograph is a bird's eye view of Atchison, Kansas, the county seat of Atchison County. The legend at the bottom of the image lists the Court House, Jail, the Public School, St. Benedict's College (Benedictine), Turner Hall, the shops of the Central Branch of the Union Pacific Railroad, the Missouri Valley Railroad depot, and a number of churches. Two African American churches are included in the list. Several of the numbers from the legend are difficult to locate on the lithograph. The name of the artist and the publisher of the lithograph are not legible. The Missouri River forms the eastern boundary of Atchison and Winthrop, Missouri, is across the river from Atchison. A number of steamboats are shown on the river including the N. S. Turner.

Bismark Grove, Lawrence, Kansas

This is a colored lithograph of Bismarck Grove, Lawrence, Kansas. It served as the site of the Western National Fair Association. The upper image shows the exposition grounds including the agricultural hall, the main exhibition hall, the machinery hall, and tracks, stands, and stables for racing. The view in the lower lift depicts the "Art Hall and Vicinity." The entrance to the fair grounds, including a depot and main gate is shown at the lower right of the image. The legend at the bottom of the lithograph states that there are 258 acres in the fiar grounds, the cost of improvements was $100,000, the distance from the Union Pacific Depot in Lawrence was one mile, and the seating capacity in the Tabernacle is 5000. It also gives the distance from Lawrence to Leavenworth, Kansas City, and Topeka. Ramsey, Millett, & Hudson Lithograph, Kansas City (no state given) produced the lithograph.

County Affairs, Shawnee County

This letter, dated February 19, 1886, is from the Shawnee County, Kansas surveyor regarding his resignation to Kansas Governor John Martin. Robert Giles, county surveyor, wrote his resignation explaining that he has taken a position with the Union Pacific Railway and the county commissioners have accepted his resignation. Shawnee County was one of the original 33 created by the Territorial Legislature, but the organization of October 10, 1855, was declared not official, and the county was officially reorganized in 1858. The county was named after the Shawnee Indians.

Dedication of reconstructed first capitol of Kansas

This poster lists "Low Fares to Pawnee and Ft. Riley, Kas. For the Dedication of Reconstructed First Capitol of Kansas." The Union Pacific Railroad paid for the restoration of the building and sponsored special trains to the event. The First Territorial Capitol was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
