This item details the amount of contributions to the United Service Organizations (U.S.O.) from cities and counties in Kansas during 1941. Totaling almost $90,000, the U.S.O. campaign in Kansas was quite successful and helped support a number of services for Americans serving in uniform during World War II. The report lists the contributions by city and the nature of the fund raising. There was a campaign in movie theaters that raised almost $9,000 from 84 cities. The list includes the names of the theaters. Local newspapers, which provided publicity, are often listed as well. The members of the local U.S. O. committees are listed, occasionally.

The St. Francis City Park is located in Saint Francis, Cheyenne County, Kansas. It was built in 1934 by Howard T. Sawhill and was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

"Topping Captains All-Kansas Prep Team"

This newspaper article, from the Topeka Daily Capital, features the annual all prep team of outstanding high school football players in Kansas. The box lists the first, second and third teams. Kenneth Topping, a tackle from St. Francis, Kansas, was the captain. Others selected to the first team include Jack Peppers, Wichita East; William Herron, Topeka; Ralph Tucker, smith Center; Charles Lyons, Wyandotte K.C.; Eldon McHugh, Dodge City; Arthur Fletcher, Junction City; William Modrein, Ward K.C.; James Stevens, Lawrence; Wendell Pollock, Wichita East; and Charles Startz, Parsons. The entire newspaper page was not copied but it appears to include brief sketches of the first team players.
