Around 1919, the Kansas State Historical Society and the American Legion solicited biographical information from returning veterans (primarily members of the 35th and 89th infantry divisions) and the families of those who died in service, notably from the Gold Star Mothers. Boyd Bainter was inducted into the Army (Air Force) in 1943 and served until 1946 in the 315th Bomb Wing, 20th Air Force. Interviewed by Marian Poe on Nov 27, 2006, Bainter talked about military experiences in the Second World War. He grew up in Jennings, Decatur County. He graduated from high school in 1941. The 2005 Kansas Legislature passed a bill funding the WWII Veterans Oral History grant program. This transcript is from one of the community institutions receiving grants. The transcript of the interview is presented here; the original video copy of the interview is available through the Rice County Historical Society (Lyons) and through the Kansas State Historical Society.

These are panoramic photographs of Kansas towns beginning with Ada and ending with Bunker Hill. The Kansas Film Commission created the photos to promote Kansas locations to film companies. Many of the photographs show business districts and buildings. The panoramics were created by taking individual photos and taping them together. Lots lists and correspondence, arranged by townsite, relating to the business activities and sales of each townsite agent of the Kansas Town and Land Company. The Kansas Town and Land Company was chartered in 1887 to buy and sell lands on the right of way of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway Company. This flyer advertises the dates that the Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railroad Company "Wheat Festival Special" will visit numerous Kansas towns along its route. It will in Kansas August 2 through 7, 1926. The train is operated in cooperation with the Kansas Agricultural College, the Kansas State Board of Agriculture, the Kansas State Grain Inspection Department, the Southwestern Wheat Improvement Association, the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and the Kansas Public Service Commission. The flyer lists speakers and their topics. Miss Vada Watson, the Kansas Wheat Queen, is one of the "special attractions" accompanying the train. A. W Large is in charge of the train for the railroad company.
