This Diatonic harmonica with silver cover-plates, brass reed-plates, and a black and orange wood comb belonged to Dean Thomas of Dighton, Kansas. Dean came down with appendicitis on the first day of a major two-day blizzard and was unable to reach a hospital until after his appendix had ruptured. Dean Thomas died at age 10 on March 31, 1931. After his death, his mother kept many of Dean's belongings, including this harmonica, in a trunk.

This pair of child's blue denim overalls belonged to Dean Thomas of Dighton, Kansas. Around 1919, the Kansas State Historical Society and the American Legion solicited biographical information from returning veterans (primarily members of the 35th and 89th infantry divisions) and the families of those who died in service, notably from the Gold Star Mothers. Each veteran or family member was asked to provide letters, photographs, a biography, and military records. This file contains information on Clark Whiting, Company H, 356th Infantry, 89th Division. Whiting was killed in action on November 11, 1918, the same day the armistice was signed to end the war.

A letter from E. J. Bell of Lane County, Kansas asks Governor St. John who has jurisdiction over Lane County, he explains in his letter there have been parties who have been attacking cattle men. A separate letter to Kansas Governor St. John also inquiries whether the Governor has jurisdiction in Lane County as well as other organized counties. There is a letter from R. H. Mitchell asking Governor St. John questions regarding attached unorganized counties to organized counties for judicial purposes. Other letters in this file are in regard to boundary lines in Lane County, voting in unorganized counties, and legislative actions.

These letters, spanning 1886 to 1887, are from the residents and offices of Lane County, Kansas regarding its organization to Kansas Governor John Martin. Many of the letters are signed petitions confirming the population requirements are met for the county's organization and requesting the location of the temporary county seat. Governor's Proclamations appoints an official to verify that the county meets requirements as well as appoints county commissioners, county clerk, and a temporary county seat. Other letters request the appointment of county officials like the commissioners, clerk, surveyor, and census taker. Lane County was organized on June 3, 1886 and named for James H. Lane.
