This pictorial book gives a brief overview of eastern Kansas. This is part twelve of twelve. Views of the Cottonwood River dam in Emporia, Kansas State Agricultural College in Manhattan, Haskell Institute in Lawrence, the rail yards in Atchison, and the Bourbon County courthouse in Fort Scott are some of the featured photographs.

A photograph showing two electronically controlled icing machines. The ice is pulled into the machines where it is crushed and delivered by a chute to the bunkers of refrigerator cars. In the background, is a second machine capable of receiving ice from either direction. Both machines completely ice refrigerator cars in 90 seconds.

A photograph showing ice being blown into a car through a large hose using an electrically driven centrifugal impeller. The ice refrigerated leaf vegetables, which were transported by rail. This machine located at the Argentine, Kansas yards, is the only one on the system that handles both body and bunker icing.

This photograph shows the versatility of the new icing machine, demonstrated here by use of the hoist and boom arrangement, which is run by independent electric motor, to swing the heater into position over hatch for lowering into car. In cold weather this protects perishables from freezing. The cars being filled have the Santa Fe logo, SFRD, and The Route of The Super Chief All Pullman Chicago-Los Angeles Streamliner on the sides.
