Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad time table no.3

This time table is in two parts. The first part is the schedule for trains numbers 1 and 3 (west bound) and trains numbers 2 and 4 (east bound) between North Topeka and Burlingame, Kansas, showing arrival and departure times. The second part of the schedule is the rules for running trains.

This is a Rock Island Railroad promotional advertisement in the form of a monthly calendar detailing the various major routes of the line. The first image shows a photographic transparency of the poster taken in the 1960s when the poster was still in good condition. The second image shows a recent scan of the original poster and the resulting deterioration over the last forty years.

Demonstration trains like this represented an alliance between railroad companies, agricultural scientists and, manufacturers to promote settlement, improve farm management, and market commercial farm products. A typical train had room for lectures, display modern farm machinery, contain livestock, and also had space to accommodate sleeping quarters and a dining area. These trains were advertised through posters and newspaper articles. Many people would gather at the local train station waiting for the train to stop. The public was invited to board and then stay for the next half hour or so for demonstrations. Speakers included T.J Talbert, L.E. Call, J.B. Fitch, C.W. McCampbell, W.A. Lippincott, N.L. Harris, F.P. Cruice, and J.F. Jarrell.

Mark Elliott sports programs

Mark Elliott sports programs

This set of records are programs and schedules covering sports teams Mark Elliott was a part of. The items include records from his time as the head coach of the Kansas State University men and women's golf coach. There is also a history of Silver Lake, Topeka, included in this collection. Mark Elliott, originally from Silver Lake, Kansas, was the state-record holder for career home runs with 36 until it was broken in 2004 by another Silver Lake athlete, Josh Workman. He also went 8-0 as a pitcher in 1977 for the Silver Lake Eagles. Mark played football at Washburn University and was drafted in 1977 by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He spent three seasons in the minors, hitting .262 with 12 home runs. When he graduated from Silver Lake, Elliott also held the career record for passing yards with 5,525. He also was a well renowned golfer in Topeka, winning four straight City Stroke Play titles from 2007-10 and two straight City Match Play titles from 2007-08 in addition to numerous KGA titles. The son of former Washburn football and baseball coach Larry Elliott, Mark coached the Kansas State golf team from 1991-97.
