The citizens of Lawrence, Kansas Territory, were giving this ball to benefit the fire department but the event was to be held on the anniversary of the destruction of the Free State Hotel on May 20, 1856. The event was to be held at the Eldridge House and music was provided by the Lawrence Quadrille Band.

A photograph of the Arcadia mining camp. Arcadia was originally founded as Hathaway in 1857 a half mile north of the current town. The post office was later moved to the site of a railroad siding in approximately 1876. Arcadia is located on the Kansas and Missouri state line, in Crawford County, and is roughly twenty miles northeast of Pittsburg, Kansas. Photographs include images of a school, churches, street scenes, school basketball team, and mining operations.

The eighty guest room facility designed by architect J.G. Holland opened in November of 1897. The hotel closed in the late 1940s due to the decline in rail services. The building was razed between 1964 and 1965.

This photograph shows the dining room of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company's Fred Harvey Bisonte Hotel in Hutchinson, Kansas. The facility designed by architect J.G. Holland opened in November of 1897. For a number of years the hotel provided accommodations until the late 1940s when it closed its doors due to the decline in rail services. The building was razed between 1964 and 1965.

This shows the Fred Harvey's Casa Del Desierto and the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company depot in Barstow, California. Built in 1911, it was considered one of the jewels of the Harvey House system offering fine dining served on china. The hotel was equipped with a full ballroom and hosted many of the town's dances and social events.

The hotel was named after Father Francisco Garces, a Spanish missionary, and was designed in the Neoclassical and Beaux-Arts style. The El Garces Hotel closed in 1949 and became an office building. The office building and depot were closed in 1998. On May 17, 2002, the El Garces Hotel was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

This sandstone and frame structure completed in 1895, with additions in 1907 and 1921. The Harvey House closed June 24, 1948. The building was demolished, in August of 1953, to make way for an ultra-modern station and facility.
