These photographs are part of the Kansas State Historical Society's online exhibit, "Wheat People: Celebrating Kansas Harvest." This exhibit focuses on the people who have built Kansas' agricultural reputation. In June 1998, the KSHS staff headed west into the heart of the wheat belt, following harvest from the Oklahoma border to far northwestern Kansas. They photographed and interviewed families from the top twenty wheat-producing counties in Kansas. The photographs featured here include some of hail damage near Boyd Elevator in Barton County.

This postcard shows an aerial view of the 14 million bushel grain elevators owned by the C-G Grain Company in Wichita, Kansas. The postcard was addressed to Mr. Clifford Hope in Washington, D.C. A note on the back indicates the elevators were southwest of Wichita, near the Mid Continent Airport. There is a printed message on the back with a handwritten note from R. H. Garvey that says "Aren't Elevators Beautiful!"

Photographs taken by Charles Herman, a long-time resident of Alma, Kansas. He was born on May 19, 1922 in Alma, Kansas and lived at 222 West 1st Street. He was a charter member of the Wabaunsee County Historical Society. His photographs were trademarked with blue sky and puffy white clouds. Herman died on December 19, 2010.
