This black and white photograph shows a horse drawn fire wagon in front of Fire Station No., 4 located near 8th and Clay in Topeka, Kansas. The men gathered around the wagon have been identified from left to right as: Will Hall, C. McCabe, Captain A.M. Robinson and E.L. Robinson.

Fire ax with steel head and oak handle. Cast steel head has wide bit with slightly curved cutting edge. Elongated poll forms a pick. Head is painted in red enamel, with black detailing.

Tall narrow black leather fireman's bucket used on a horse-drawn fire wagon. The donor, George Luty, was the fire chief of Kiowa, Kansas.

The photograph shows Garden City, Finney County, Kansas' 500 gallon pumper bought in 1927 and retired in 1962. The photograph shows what may have been an actual fire. The scene is behind the Stone Hotel, looking west. Also in the background of the photograph, the Methodist Church is visible.

The photograph shows what is believed to be the acceptance test of Garden City, Finney County, Kansas' new 500 gallon pumper purchased in 1927. It is being tested at the city's huge swimming pool in the winter. The truck was in service until 1962, when it was retired and replaced by a new 1,000 gallon pumper. Also visible in the background of the photograph is the old diving board.

The Hamblin House hotel was erected in 1867 on the southwest corner of Second and Main in Ottawa, Kansas. It was destroyed by fire on February 10, 1895.

Long firehose pipe with brass nozzle. Pipe's long tapering shaft is wrapped in cording which is painted red. The makers of this hose pipe, Eureka Fire Hose Manufacturing Company, operated in New York, New York for many years.

Fireman's Badge

Date: between 1886 and 1901
Badge for E.L. Skelton, Assistant Fire Chief of Parsons, Kansas. Gold. In three sections linked by small chains. Edward Lincoln Skelton (1854-1915) had become First Assistant Chief by at least 1898. Prior to his appointment as Assistant Chief he served as Foreman of Hook and Ladder Company Number 1.

Navy blue felt fireman's cap with oval crown sides and flat top. Belonged to Edward Lincoln Skelton (1854-1915) of the Parsons, Kansas Fire Department. Skelton had become First Assistant Chief by at least 1898. Prior to his appointment as Assistant Chief he served as Foreman of Hook and Ladder Company Number 1.

The panoramics were created by taking individual photos and taping them together. The photographs are arranged alphabetically by subject and then location. The subjects included in this part of the collection are feedlots, festivals, fire stations, forts, geological formations, golf courses, and grain elevators.
