This large brochure contains a full map on one side of Kansas, Colorado, and portions of surrounding states including the Black Hills of South Dakota. The reverse side has a myriad of information encouraging immigration to Kansas with the purchase of Kansas Pacific Railway lands; freighting between the Missouri River and Denver; $45.00 round trip tickets for tourists between Kansas City and Denver; enjoying the Switzerland of America and its many resorts; the railway line with Pullman sleepers, steel tracks and Westinghouse brakes; gold and silver mining in the San Juan and Black Hill regions; health resorts with pure air for weak lungs, sulfur springs, iron springs and hot springs; and a time table for the Kansas Pacific Railway. All of this was meant to promote travel on the Kansas Pacific Railway. NOTE: Because of the design of the brochure, pages 2 and 3 are duplicates but the right side up of the text is in the lower half of each image.

This brochure advertises travel between St. Louis/Chicago and Los Angeles/San Francisco via the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. Included is a description and picture of the Pullman tourist sleepers, the dining cars and dining rooms, the weekly schedule from various locations and ticket rates. The brochure also has a map of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico showing the route of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad and its various connections.

This brochure advertises the services of four trains of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. Two of the trains are from Chicago and Omaha and the other two are from St. Louis and Kansas City. The trains from Chicago and Omaha are the "Rocky Mountain Limited" and the "Colorado and California Express" The two trains from St. Louis and Kansas City are the "Colorado-Pacific Coast Express" and the "Colorado Flyer." The daily schedules for each train are included. Such features as electric lighted cars; a buffet-library-observation car with barber, valet and Victrola recitals; and telegraphic bulletins.

The first image shows a photographic transparency of the poster taken in the 1960s when the poster was still in good condition. The second image shows a recent scan of the original poster and the resulting deterioration over the last forty years.

This eight column brochure advertises the advantages and benefits of visiting and/or settling in Colorado or Kansas. For Colorado, it is the size (larger than all of New England); the resorts (grand scenery); the climate (the climate and mineral springs are a medicine which is wrought with complete cures); the parks (one of the most wonderful features of the world); the mineral resources (gold and silver); and the fact that the health and pleasure resorts all can be reached by railroad (the Kansas Pacific Railway). For Kansas, it is the growing population, the agriculture, and the availability of land. In 1878 Kansas became the number one producer of wheat in the United States and over 45 per cent of that was produced and then shipped on Kansas Pacific Railway lands. The reverse side of the brochure is a map of the Kansas Pacific Railway routes from Kansas City and Leavenworth to the west, including Kit Carson, La Junta. Denver, Trinidad, Del Norte, and Greeley in Colorado and Cheyenne, Wyoming.

This brochure advertises the Kansas Pacific Railway's "Golden Belt Route" by a map of their lines from Kansas City and Leavenworth to Kit Carson, La Junta, Denver, Trinidad, Greeley in Colorado, and Cheyenne, Wyoming. The map shows all of the counties of Kansas and its principal cities as of 1878. In Colorado it shows principal cities throughout the state and the major peaks and passes of the Rocky Mountains. The reverse side of the brochure advertises the Kansas Pacific Railway routes and facilities in Colorado and Kansas. It has an engraving of the Kansas Pacific Railway's Union Depot in Kansas City, Missouri along with time tables for the various routes of the Kansas Pacific and some of the local connecting railroads. For Colorado, the mineral and agricultural resources, medicinal properties of its mineral waters are promoted. For Kansas the agricultural land available for settling is promoted, as well as many tourist opportunities for both states.

This table concerns the new direct route from Kansas City and Atchison to various destinations in Colorado. The route was known as the "Great Southern Route through Kansas." This early time table demonstrates the Santa Fe Railroad's promotion of Colorado as a tourist destination and recreation area for outdoor enthusiasts. The table specifically promotes the Arkansas [River] Canyon.

Map and timetable of the Kansas City, Lawrence and Southern Kansas Railroad line from Kansas City to Harper, Kansas. The route included branches to Lawrence, Burlington, Coffeyville, and Hunnewell. The company advertised itself as "passing through the great wheat belts of the Neosho and Arkansas Valleys to the grazing and cattle fields of south-western Kansas and Indian Territory." The company encouraged settlement along 150 miles of the Oklahoma border with descriptions of the soil and climate for those emigrating to southern Kansas.

This Kansas Pacific Railway brochure promotes travel to the San Juan Mines of Colorado and the Black Hills gold mines. One side contains a map of the Kansas Pacific Railway lines and a time table from Kansas City to points west, ending at Denver, Cheyenne and Trinidad. The reverse side contains information related to tourism in the area, gold and silver mining, freighting and land settlement.

This brochure emphasizes the mining districts of Leadville and Ten-mile, but the brochure also encourages travel between Kansas and Colorado for reasons of health, scenery and immigration. There are three illustrations on one side and a full scale map on the reverse. The main illustration is of the Kansas Pacific Railway Depot in Kansas City while the map is of Kansas and Colorado with the Kansas Pacific Line clearly marked. There are timetables and a table of grain prices included.

This poster advertises a "Lightning Express Train" leaving Kansas City at 11:30 a.m. daily and arriving at Pueblo, Colorado at 3 p.m. the next day; then on to Denver, arriving at 8:30 p.m. that day. It claims to be the only direct route to the San Jaun mines. It is also called, "The Tourists' Route", because it passes through the "Great Arkansas Valley."

This advertisement for the Missouri Pacific Railroad features condensed time tables of the Kansas City, Leavenworth and Atchison stations with the ending destination being St.Louis. Each time table shows connecting lines from other railroads. The back side of the ad is a map of the United States with all of the 48 states and portions of Canada and Mexico. The map shows the routes of the Atlantic Pacific and Missouri Pacific railroads and their principal connections with other railroads.

In addition to schedules for the Colorado Flyer, the equipment, i.e. types of cars; services, e.g., Pullman cars, reclining chairs, dining cars, Harvey meal services, and tourist cars are listed. Other Colorado trains are listed, as well as additional services and connections to California.
