This is a note from George Washington authorizing payment of 1 pound, 15 shillings, and 10 pence to Mr. Nathan Chapman for his portion of the expenses of exploring, surveying, and patenting a parcel of land, dated January 25, 1774.

While on one of his two photographic excursions to South Dakota, Louis Palenske photographed the construction of Mount Rushmore. In an unusual instance, Palenske rotated the Korona Panoramic View Camera vertically when he photographed the monument. Notice that workers are sculpting Lincoln's face in this view. Funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission through the Kansas State Historical Records Advisory Board.

This letter, dated December 31, 1884, is from Albert Ordway, Chief of Staff, in regards to the dedication of the Washington Monument to Kansas Governor G. W. Glick. Ordway enclosed the program for the dedication and requested a representative for Kansas at the ceremonies. The dedication of the Washington Monument was on February 21st, 1885.
