This is a photograph showing Richard Ney presenting Ronald E. Miles with the 1996 Mary Ellen Hamilton Award from National Legal Aid and Defender Association. Miles was director of the State Board of Indigents' Defense Service. The presentation was held at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The award was named in honor of Mary Ellen Hamilton, one of the founders of the National Clients Council and Alliance for Legal rights. The award commends a non-attorney who has provided outstanding service or support to the provision of legal services to the poor.
