Correspondence between Louis Palenske, a photographer from Alma, Kansas, and Kirke Mechem, secretary of the Kansas Historical Society in Topeka, Kansas. The two men discuss Palenske's recollection of a trip to Germany in 1884 to encourage settlement along the Santa Fe Railway. Palenske previously worked as a land agent for the Santa Fe Railway.


Missouri Pacific Railway Company Pass

Missouri Pacific Railway Company Pass
Date: 1897
This complimentary pass to travel between all stations in Kansas was issued by the Missouri Pacific Railway Company to Louis Palenske during his term in the Kansas Legislature. This pass was a 60-trip pass and had numbers around the edge of the ticked which would be punched each time the pass was used. Funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission through the Kansas State Historical Records Advisory Board.
