This is a photograph of the Iowa State University Scottish Highlanders "dress right" as they line up at the Kansas City, Missouri railroad station. The Highlanders and the Iowa State University band performed and paraded through the Kansas City business district. Later, they board the train for the Rose Bowl.

This transcript of an interview with Sally Frame is part of an oral history project entitled "Patterns of Change, Edwards County, Kansas 1950-1970" conducted by the Kinsley Public Library. The project was supported by a Kansas Humanities Council Heritage Grant. Frame talks of her family, education, and her memories of the Edwards County community.

This photograph shows students and faculty gathered for a band concert on the campus of Western University. The African Methodist Episcopal Church established Western University on the grounds of the former Freedman's University, located in Quindaro, Wyandotte County, Kansas along the Missouri River. The only historically black college in Kansas, its famous graduates include Eva Jessye and Nora Douglass Holt. Extensive damage caused by a fire in 1924 and a subsequent lack of funding led to the university's closure in 1943.
