This fire insurance atlas shows blocks, lots, buildings and property ownership for Kansas City, Kansas (formerly Wyandotte, Kansas City, and Armourdale), Argentine and Rosedale. An index to specials (businesses and public services) and a street index precede the plat maps at the beginning of the volume. The color assigned to a structure indicates its building material. A key to colors and other symbols is available on the title page. Summaries of the operations and facilities of major industries and businesses are included with some plats. Businesses showcased include packing houses, stockyards, grain elevators, and metal smelters and refiners.

Around 1919, the Kansas State Historical Society and the American Legion solicited biographical information from returning veterans (primarily members of the 35th and 89th infantry divisions) and the families of those who died in service, notably from the Gold Star Mothers. Each veteran or family member was asked to provide letters, photographs, a biography, and military records. This file contains information on Frank J. Nelson, Company H, 353rd Infantry, 89th Division.

Lewis Carter enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served until 1946. He was assigned to four different vessels: SSJulesburg, a tanker; USS Williamson, DD244, a destroyer; the Hamlin, a seaplane tender; and the Pine Island, another seaplane tender. He spent most of his active duty in the Pacific and provides good descriptions of his activities. After the war, he attended K-State on the G. I. Bill, lived several years in Dighton, and then attended law school at Washburn University. He was Clerk of the Kansas Supreme Court for 20 years and lived in Holton. Growing up, he lived in a number of Kansas communitites and graduated from Rosedale High School in 1942. He was interviewed by Suzette McCord-Rogers on Oct 15, 2007. The 2005 Kansas Legislature passed a bill funding the WWII Veterans Oral History grant program. This transcript is from one of the community institutions receiving grants. The transcript of the interview is presented here; the original video copy of the interview is available through the Doniphan County Historical Society (Troy) and through the Kansas State Historical Society.
