This photograph represents Chief Warrant Officer George Johnson receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross award for his service in Vietnam at the 116th anniversary for the 9th and 10th Cavalry in Wichita, Kansas. Johnson served in Korea and Japan from 1962 to 1965 and was transferred to Vietnam where he was the first African American to receive the award.

Blue and white quilt featuring the embroidered signatures of 24 prominent Kansans. Made by Marie Marcellus Burgett of Junction City to celebrate Kansas' 125th anniversary of statehood, 1986. Burgett obtained the signatures of 24 living Kansans on white fabric squares, and embroidered the signatures along with a summary of each individual's achievements. The quilt won a grand prize at the Riley County Fair, and reserve champion prize at the Geary County Fair, and was exhibited in the Kansas Capitol. According to Burgett, the blue fabric represents the Kansas skies. Made of cotton/synthetic blend fabrics. White binding and navy blue backing. Machine-pieced. Hand-quilted with outline stitching around signatures, and also sunflower and wheat designs.

This group of photographs depict the Kansas historical marker for the "Battle of Mine Creek". Located one mile south Pleasanton, Kansas on U. S. Highway 69 in Linn County, Kansas. The photograph that has crowds in the background was taken during the centennial ceremony of the battle in October 1964.


Boston Corbett

Boston Corbett

A ticket for the Centennial International Exhibition held in Philadelphia with a photograph of Boston Corbett in the middle. Thomas P. "Boston" Corbett was the Union Army soldier who killed Abraham Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth. Corbett, who homesteaded near Concordia, Kansas in the late 1870s, was hired as a doorkeeper for the Kansas House of Representatives in Topeka, Kansas. On February 15, 1887, while performing his doorkeeper duties, Corbett pulled a pistol and unofficially adjourned the House. He was disarmed by local police, declared insane, and committed to the State Insane Asylum in Topeka. He escaped a year later.

Regal China produced this "Trophy Bottle" in 1971 for the James B. Beam Distilling Company. Designed for the 125th anniversary of William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody's birth, it was filled with a fifth of 100-month old Beam bourbon whiskey. Some commemorative bottles were personalized and given to Cody descendents present at the August 11-14, 1971 celebration at Cody's boyhood in Leavenworth, Kansas.
