This letter, written by Paul R. Brooks from Lawrence, Kansas Territory, describes the Kansas Territory land claim dispute between James Lane and Gaius Jenkins, which ended with Lane killing Jenkins. Brooks writes that Jenkins was well-respected, mentions his widow and children, and indicates that his funeral was well attended. He also makes passing reference to the "Linn county tragedy."
