Martha Davis provides information on the recent death of Father (probably Owen Brown, abolitionist John Brown's father). She writes that they had heard of the conflict at Osawatomie, Kansas Territory, and that "John and two of his sons" had been arrested. She expresses anxiety for their safety. Florella Adair was John Brown's half-sister.
