Interior view of the Pawnee Capitol building in 1928. Pawnee, Kansas Territory, was the first official capital of the Kansas Territory for five days (July 2-6) in 1855 before pro-slavery legislators voted to move the territory's capital to Shawnee Mission. The former Pawnee Capitol building has been designated as an historic site at what is now Fort Riley, Kansas.
