This photograph represents a teacher's bedroom in the North Building at the Shawnee Indian Mission in Fairway, Kansas after reconstruction in 1942. The walnut bed portrayed in the photograph is covered in an original hand-woven spread. Not viewable in the photograph is the center design of the spread which depicts President George Washington on a horse. A label on the reverse of the photograph describes more of the room that is represented in the photograph as well as furniture not captured in the photograph. In 1968, the Shawnee Indian Mission was declared a National Historic Landmark and has since been under the operation of the Kansas Historical Society.
