The first two images are of the excavations at Area E of the Lewis site in Chase County. The third image shows the site after heavy rain. The site was excavated by Kansas Historical Society archeologists and crew. The Lewis site had multiple occupations starting in the Archaic period through the Middle Ceramic periods. Area E consisted of a trench and several test units: a burned rock complex, four cache pits and a large limestone concentration were revealed during the excavations of Area E.
